Fight Picks June 14-18

Pretty solid week of fights coming up, nothing too high-profile but 4 quality boxing cards and a good UFC Fight Night card.

Wednesday’s ProBox TV card in Florida

ProBox is putting on a pretty good show this Wednesday, with a solid main event and some fun prospects on the undercard. Free on YouTube, as per usual.

Franklin Gonzalez vs Saul Sanchez (10, Super Bantam): Sanchez via Decision

Oscar Alvarez vs Jonhatan Cardoso (8, Super Feather): Alvarez via KO/TKO round 6

Dominic Valle vs Carlos Rosario (6, Super Feather): Valle via KO/TKO round 2

Friday’s SKY UK card in London

I don’t love the idea of putting a rising prospect in Azim as a headliner for a card, and I think his last fight was evidence that the bright lights and media attention may have been too much for him at the time: he looked flat despite getting the win. Still, should be a good event.

Adam Azim vs Aram Faniian (10, Super Light): Azim via Decision

Aaron McKenna vs Shakiel Thompson (10, Middle): Thompson via Decision

Frazer Clarke vs Mariusz Wach (8, Heavy): Clarke via KO/TKO round 4

Viddal Riley vs Anees Taj (8, Cruiser): Riley via KO/TKO round 3

Saturday’s DAZN card in Louisiana

The only title fight on the schedule this weekend, and it’s mid at best. Don’t get me wrong, I like both Prograis and Zorrilla, but there’s levels to champions, and this fight is low-level for a title fight. Still, winner near undoubtedly fights Teofimo next, which should be interesting.

Regis Prograis vs Danielito Zorrilla (12, Super Light for WBC title): Prograis via Decision

Shakhram Giyasov vs Harold Calderon (12, Welter): Giyasov via KO/TKO round 7

Aaron Aponte vs Xavier Madrid (8, Super Light): Aponte via KO/TKO round 3

Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Vettori vs Cannonier

After a mid-at-best PPV card, the UFC has an awesome Fight Night card this weekend. Great main event and solid depth throughout the card, makes me wonder why they didn’t have this kind of quality on their PPV just last week, but oh well.

Marvin Vettori vs Jared Cannonier (Middleweight): Vettori via Decision

Arman Tsarukyan vs Joaquim Silva (Lightweight): Tsarukyan via KO/TKO round 1

Armen Petrosyan vs Christian Leroy Duncan (Middleweight): Duncan via KO/TKO round 2

Pat Sabatini vs Lucas Almeida (Featherweight): Almeida via KO/TKO round 3

Manuel Torres vs Nikolas Motta (Lightweight): Torres via KO/TKO round 2

Raoni Barcelos vs Miles Johns (Bantamweight): Johns via Decision

Jimmy Flick vs Alessandro Costa (Flyweight): Flick via Decision

Zhalgas Zhumagulov vs Felipe Bunes (Flyweight): Bunes via Decision

Zac Pauga vs Modestas Bukauskas (Light Heavyweight): Bukauskas via KO/TKO round 2

Sunday’s FOX Australia card in Australia

Really just a 2 fight card, but should be good. Maybe Tszyu will finally get Charlo to come out of hiding following this one.

Tim Tszyu vs Carlos Ocampo (12, Super Welter): Tszyu via KO/TKO round 9

Sam Goodman vs Ra’eese Aleem (12, Super Bantam): Aleem via Decision

There goes the idea that Prograis fights Teo next with a win Saturday. Catterall should get vacant title shot

No way Teo stays retired. Whether he fights soon enough to defend his title is another question though.

10-7 on the weekend. Far from my best work but happy to see Cannonier get a tough win. Prograis is cannon fodder for the rest of the division, he’s not much. Don’t know if I’ll have the time to post a fight prediction this week or not (new job got a crazy schedule) but next week I should be able to get one done. Topuria-Emmett will be fun this weekend, probably my priority #1 viewing of the week.

211-84 on the year

I think your underestimating Prograis a bit. I just put that down as a bad performance. I think he beats most other champs at 140.
