Really enjoyed the Chisora fight

Excellent stuff in the Chisora/Pulev fight at the weekend.

Whilst close it was almost an absolute home town mugging by Del aided and abetted by the usual BBBC suspects…

Great photo from Mark Robinson of Matchroom which really sums it up.

Really enjoyed it as well. Chisora feels like he is from a different era. In an age when so many only look at stats, his record looks terrible on paper. Yet he can still sell out decent sized arenas.

Also had Pulev winning, but I think Del Boy deserves a decision. He has been on the wrong end of dodgy ones enough.

Yeah any Chisora fight is bound to be a good one. Such an exciting style. Rest of the card was underwhelming tho. But the rumors that Chisora wants Wilder are (hopefully) not true. Not sure he lives to tell the tale after that one.

Shame about the main support fight ending as it did.
Also another very dismal women’s fight with pillows for gloves. Really tedious, (in reality) amateur fare masquerading as a pro-fight. Wish they’d work out a way to add bit of peril/danger/uncertainty into these fights. They manage it well enough in MMA etc etc…

Agreed. UFC in particular makes even their prelim fights entertaining. Boxing needs to stop babying their prospects and allow them to test themselves earlier in their careers, so that they can get up rankings faster should they choose to risk it. Journeymen should fight each other to try and save their careers, like in MMA. And, most importantly, losses shouldn’t be scrutinized in fighting like they are in boxing. Losing and learning/improving from it should be viewed as a positive development, especially for younger fighters should they choose to push themselves against tougher competition.

Agree with all of that. Unfortunately one loss now and you are shit according to the newer fans of the sport. Which just results in prospects being even more protected than they used to be.

There in a nutshell is actually the issue.
MMA = UFC whilst “Boxing” is an entire sport as opposed to the one, single most important, organisation in the sport.

All it would take to upset the apple cart though is for someone to pump major money into MMA and give UFC proper competition. I do wonder what would happen then. Suddenly you would have a boxing scenario, but without the chance of meet of to declare a ‘true champ’.
